By\u00a0taking over these neglected everyday spaces, I\u00a0turn the\u00a0flaw into a\u00a0place of\u00a0creation and\u00a0repair. I\u00a0develop this practice on\u00a0a\u00a0personal basis, freely and\u00a0spontaneously, choosing for\u00a0myself the\u00a0places and\u00a0cracks that become the\u00a0starting point of\u00a0each intervention.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0gesture is\u00a0simple but\u00a0carries a\u00a0symbolic dimension: rather than hiding the\u00a0crack, I\u00a0choose to\u00a0underline it\u00a0and\u00a0extend it\u00a0with mosaic. The\u00a0fragment thus becomes material of\u00a0both construction and\u00a0degradation, the\u00a0starting point of\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0form. Each\u00a0intervention enters into dialogue with the\u00a0place that hosts it\u00a0and\u00a0with the\u00a0gaze of\u00a0passersby. This\u00a0approach has\u00a0also taken me\u00a0to\u00a0various places in\u00a0Quebec and\u00a0to\u00a0Mexico, where I\u00a0integrated fragments of\u00a0glass and\u00a0ceramic into the\u00a0landscape.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These works are\u00a0neither protected nor\u00a0intended to\u00a0be\u00a0preserved. Subject\u00a0to\u00a0weather, freeze-thaw cycles, foot traffic and\u00a0street maintenance (snow removal in\u00a0particular), they change over time. Some\u00a0have been repaired or\u00a0replaced, and\u00a0each mosaic is\u00a0numbered in\u00a0the\u00a0order of\u00a0its\u00a0creation. This\u00a0numbering is\u00a0a\u00a0trace of\u00a0the\u00a0project\u2019s\u00a0evolution and\u00a0of\u00a0my\u00a0gradual intervention in\u00a0the\u00a0urban landscape.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0presence of\u00a0these works in\u00a0public space allows for\u00a0a\u00a0direct, unexpected encounter with art. They\u00a0may\u00a0be\u00a0discovered by\u00a0chance, while out\u00a0for\u00a0a\u00a0walk, in\u00a0a\u00a0spontaneous meeting with the\u00a0work. For\u00a0me, this accessibility is\u00a0a\u00a0way\u00a0of\u00a0democratizing art\u00a0and\u00a0bringing it\u00a0into everyday life.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0fragility of\u00a0these mosaics is\u00a0part of\u00a0their meaning: they may\u00a0change, be\u00a0repaired, disappear or\u00a0leave a\u00a0trace. Their\u00a0ephemeral nature is\u00a0a\u00a0reminder that art, like the\u00a0urban landscape and\u00a0our\u00a0own\u00a0lives, is\u00a0subject to\u00a0time, accidents and\u00a0transformation.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t\t\n\t\t<p class=\"lk-projet-mention wp-block-paragraph\">Sidewalk mosaics #1-5, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15 and\u00a016 were created in\u00a0a\u00a0pedestrian walkway located between Louis-J.-Lafortune and\u00a0Pierre-Conefroy streets in\u00a0Boucherville, Quebec.<\/p>\n\t\t\n\t<\/div>\n\t\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My\u00a0sidewalk mosaics are\u00a0site-specific artistic interventions that originate in\u00a0the\u00a0cracks and\u00a0irregularities of\u00a0the\u00a0urban landscape.
