It all began with a book – with its images of a continent I had never seen, but whose silence and immensity gripped me. Antarctica imposed itself as a territory at once sublime and vulnerable: expanses of ice that seem to defy time, and yet are so fragile before the human footprint.
From Time Immemorial was born of this tension. The eternal ice, the endless horizons, the nocturnal silences I painted are not mere landscapes: they are questions posed to our relationship with the world. What remains eternal when human activity seeps into even the most remote regions of the planet? This series marks the starting point of a concern that still runs through my practice today – the fragility of the environments that sustain us, and our collective responsibility toward them.
From Time Immemorial was presented at Galerie Le 1040, Montreal.
